Focus: Matters of the Heart

Musing…
"Loving more is easier than fearing less."  – Martha Beck

Our theme FOCUS brings to mind zooming in on what matters in the moment…moving from blurry, diffuse, distracted to utter clarity and single-pointedness. Holding our focus allows us to dance with the Muse, who leads from our heart, in the creative process.

Kate’s Turn:
I observed some features of focus this past month in a life event: the accidental death of my brother. When I received the news, all other matters fell away – my heart zoomed in on what was important, not on other distracting details of life that hours before seemed urgent. I created a space to spend time with family where my heart needed to be. This, of course, is a stark example of focus, but a good illustration of its features: creating space that is guarded from distractions, placing concentrated attention on purpose, and allowing love to lead and sustain us. Reflect on its power in the example of focusing sunlight through glass to start a fire…in conscious presence with your child…in completing a project to a satisfying outcome. Fear is a form of distraction – focus on what you love more.

"It takes a while to see this, but there’s only one hard decision you have to make: will you trust your own heart to lead? And that will give you your whole life no matter what you decide."  – Brian Andreas

Get Fired Up:
What needs to fall away in order to sharpen your focus? Listen to your heart to zoom in on what matters – then power it up with concentrated love to kindle your creative fire.

"Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love.  It will not lead you astray."
