Cultivate: Writing

Musing…
"Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers."

Charise’s Turn:
Writing in a reflective way has come to the forefront recently like a message delivered right into my hands. A colleague shares how she has started making a list of what she can change and what she can not change, and adds to this daily. I grabbed on to this idea and made some discoveries in my own list, which has helped develop a realistic picture of where I am in my life.

Coincidently, in looking through an archive of interviews I’ve given as co-author of A Portable Identity I stumbled upon my answer to the question, what would I do differently if I moved overseas again?: “…begin journaling about my feelings and thoughts regarding the move as soon as I knew that it was going to happen. I wouldn’t wait until I got to the new country. I would try to pay attention to my inner world and begin to articulate what was happening to me, so that I could stay in touch with myself throughout all the change. I think this would help keep me grounded, and I’d be less likely to ignore my needs.”

Research has shown that when you write down your goals they are much more likely to happen. Just think of the action of writing – what is floating around in your thoughts takes form as words on paper so you are already taking the first step into the physical realm of manifestation. You are grounding your ideas. As nature dictates, in order for something to flourish it must take root first. Right? Write!

Get Fired Up:
Get a pad of paper or notebook or journal, whichever appeals to you, and have a conversation with yourself on paper. You can start with asking yourself this: “how can I make writing a powerful tool for what I want to accomplish? “
Writing for your benefit is another way to embrace all of your self.
