Envision: Be There Now

Sculpture in Paris, France

Musing….
The vision that you glorify in your mind,
the ideal that you enthrone in your heart,
this you will build your life by,
and this you will become.  - Anonymous

A vision board, sometimes called a dream board, is a collage of images and words that represent something  you’d like to realize in your life. It is a powerful tool used to cultivate and nurture a dream seed you have. The vision itself acts like a reference point by which you navigate; it points to true north for all the choices in your days that are opportunities to step closer to your dream realized.

Kate’s Turn:
I’ve made a few vision boards in my past, and the cultivation of those visions seem to be powered up the most by simply gazing at the board and using my imagination, along with all my senses, to experience my “dream” – to use my daydreaming experience as a way to pour my energy into it. How fun is that?!   Currently, I have a vision of living in France for awhile, so I can paint my watercolors there, study with a mentor, bike in the countryside with my palette and capture the essence of my experience there on canvas, in my journal, in my pleasure and joy of living there. Get it? I’m THERE already in my mind and heart...the vision is my guiding star to embody it as I make choices every day, stepping  towards this dream.  I’m even beginning to practice a few French sayings:  Joie de vivre!

Get Fired Up:
Begin to collect images, words, objects, materials that speak to you about the vision you have for yourself – as you pay attention, they will call out to you. Arrange them in a collage or gathering space, and allow them to invite you to nurture your vision in your daydreaming and BE THERE NOW!

Envision: Reach

Musing...
"Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark." -- Agnes de Mille

Wise words from a renowned choreographer, they also allow for dreaming, for envisioning. And envisioning isn’t about knowing the outcome, where you will land. Envisioning is actually a starting place, even when the vision itself seems like a place to arrive, a result, an end to a story.

Charise’s Turn:
I have an image of turning my garage into a studio. It’s wasted space right now, just storing things, when it could be de-cluttered and put in service of healing through movement. Whether or not I will accomplish this renovation, I hold the image because it fuels my work, gives me a sense of autonomy. And that autonomy is exciting – it helps me understand that the future of my yoga/dance practice is not dependent on the places I teach, but is centered in me, what I choose to develop.  And I am already developing personalized yoga routines based on my students’ desire to bring yoga home into their daily life.

In my dream of my studio, I see light filled space, sprung wood floor, mirrors on one side, high ceiling, and soothing lavender color. This image invites me to dwell in my vision…of where my practice is going.

Get Fired Up:
What dream can you reach for to take you into a new direction?
Go for the dream that enlivens your creativity!
